Why pet health insurance?
Vets charge according to a fixed fee schedule – depending on the effort involved, at one to three times the standard rate. For emergency services at night, at weekends or on public holidays at least double the rate applies, plus an emergency fee of €50. Pet health insurance spares you from having to decide based on money when your pet needs an operation or longer treatment.

Surgery cover
Pays the costs of operations under anaesthesia – often including pre-examination and aftercare.

Also pays for outpatient treatment, medication and examinations – depending on the tariff, preventive care such as vaccinations too.

- What matters is up to which rate of the fee schedule a tariff reimburses: for emergency services, vets may charge up to four times the rate.
- Many tariffs have an annual benefit limit or an excess.
- For dogs in Lower Saxony you also need dog liability insurance – health insurance does not replace it.

Questions about pet health insurance
Surgery cover or full health cover?
Surgery cover protects against the big cost risks of operations and is usually cheaper. Full health cover also pays for everyday treatment and medication. What suits you depends on your pet’s age and breed and on your budget.
Is there a waiting period?
With many tariffs, yes, often a few weeks or months – after accidents there is usually no waiting period. Illnesses that already existed before the contract started are usually excluded.
Up to what age can I insure my pet?
Each insurer decides that for itself. Many tariffs only accept new animals up to a certain maximum age – which is why it pays to take out cover early.
Do I have to upload my policy?
No, that's optional. With your policy, though, our partner's experts can compare your current cover more precisely and make you a suitable offer faster.
What does reviewing my contracts cost?
Nothing – 100 % free and with no hidden commitment. The check is non-binding. We are paid by the provider or the licensed experts when a new contract is concluded. When you switch electricity or gas, we pass part of this on to you as a bonus; for insurance there is no bonus and no cashback (§ 48b VAG). If you grant the voluntary support mandate, the licensed insurance experts also receive an ongoing commission from the insurers for looking after your contracts (portfolio commission) – this costs you nothing either.
