Occupational disability insurance

Why occupational disability insurance?

Your ability to work is often your most valuable asset – it pays for rent, family and retirement savings. Anyone born after 1 January 1961 no longer receives an occupational disability pension from the state, at most a reduced earning capacity pension – and it is usually much lower than your previous income. Occupational disability insurance pays you a monthly pension if you can no longer do your job for health reasons.

Ideal for

  • Apprentices & career starters
  • Family breadwinners
  • Self-employed

  • Monthly pension

If you are expected to be unable to do at least 50 % of your job for at least six months, the insurer usually pays the agreed pension.

  • Not just after accidents

Common reasons for occupational disability are mental illness and back and joint problems.

  • Sign up early

The younger and healthier you are when you sign up, the lower the premium usually is – and the easier the health check.

Good to know

  • The health questions must be answered completely and honestly – otherwise the insurer can refuse to pay later.
  • The pension should be high enough for you to keep your standard of living. Our partner's experts work it out with you.
  • Make sure the contract runs until you retire.

Our partner's licensed experts will discuss with you personally exactly which cover suits you.

Questions about occupational disability insurance

When are you considered occupationally disabled?

Usually when, because of illness, an accident or loss of strength, you are expected to be unable to do at least 50 % of your most recent job for at least six months. The exact conditions are in the contract – our partner's experts explain them to you.

Doesn't the state pay anyway?

Anyone born after 1 January 1961 no longer receives a statutory occupational disability pension. There is only the reduced earning capacity pension – in full only if you can work less than three hours a day, in any job.

What is a guaranteed increase option?

It lets you increase your disability pension on certain occasions without a new health check – such as marriage, the birth of a child or a pay rise. The occasions that apply are set out in the contract.

Do I have to upload my policy?

No, that's optional. With your policy, though, our partner's experts can compare your current cover more precisely and make you a suitable offer faster.

What does reviewing my contracts cost?

Nothing – 100 % free and with no hidden commitment. The check is non-binding. We are paid by the provider or the licensed experts when a new contract is concluded. When you switch electricity or gas, we pass part of this on to you as a bonus; for insurance there is no bonus and no cashback (§ 48b VAG). If you grant the voluntary support mandate, the licensed insurance experts also receive an ongoing commission from the insurers for looking after your contracts (portfolio commission) – this costs you nothing either.

Your question isn’t listed?
