Private health insurance

When private health insurance can be worthwhile

With private health insurance you choose your benefits yourself – for example treatment by the chief physician, a single or double room in hospital or higher reimbursement at the dentist. The premium depends on age, health and tariff, not on your income. This can be attractive especially for civil servants, the self-employed and well-paid employees.

Ideal for

  • Self-employed
  • Civil servants & trainees
  • High-earning employees

Personal call-back in German or Arabic

  • Benefits of your choice

You decide what is covered – from hospital and dentist to alternative practitioner or glasses, depending on the tariff.

  • Particularly interesting for civil servants

Civil servants receive an allowance (Beihilfe) from their employer and only insure the remaining share privately.

  • Premium independent of income

The premium depends on age, state of health and tariff. Insurers build up reserves for old age.

Good to know

  • Private health insurance is a decision for many years: from 55, the way back to statutory health insurance is usually closed.
  • Children and spouses are not covered free of charge – everyone gets their own contract.
  • The health questions must be answered completely and honestly. We treat your information confidentially.

Our partner's licensed experts will discuss with you personally exactly which cover suits you.

Questions about private health insurance

Who can join private health insurance?

Civil servants, the self-employed and freelancers as well as employees whose income is above the compulsory insurance threshold. Our partner's licensed experts check with you whether switching makes sense for you.

Can I go back to statutory health insurance later?

Only under certain conditions, for example if as an employee you fall below the compulsory insurance threshold again. From 55, the way back is usually closed. That is why our partner's experts take particular care over this decision.

Do premiums rise with age?

Insurers build up reserves for old age. Even so, premiums can rise, for example when healthcare costs increase. That’s why a tariff that stays affordable in the long term matters – the experts work this out with you. If needed, you can switch to another tariff with the same insurer.

Do I have to upload my policy?

No, that's optional. With your policy, though, our partner's experts can compare your current cover more precisely and make you a suitable offer faster.

What does reviewing my contracts cost?

Nothing – 100 % free and with no hidden commitment. The check is non-binding. We are paid by the provider or the licensed experts when a new contract is concluded. When you switch electricity or gas, we pass part of this on to you as a bonus; for insurance there is no bonus and no cashback (§ 48b VAG). If you grant the voluntary support mandate, the licensed insurance experts also receive an ongoing commission from the insurers for looking after your contracts (portfolio commission) – this costs you nothing either.
