Injury & property damage
If your dog bites someone or damages other people’s property, the insurance pays justified claims.
Defence against unjustified claims
If a claim is exaggerated or unjustified, the insurer fends it off for you – at its own expense.
Damage to rented property
If your dog scratches the parquet or the door of your rented flat, good tariffs pay for that too.
Good to know
- In Lower Saxony, the insurance must cover at least €500,000 for personal injury and €250,000 for property damage.
- The legal amount is only the minimum – many tariffs offer much higher sums insured.
- Damage caused by dogs is not covered by personal liability insurance – that’s what dog liability insurance is for.
Our partner's licensed experts will discuss with you personally exactly which cover suits you.
Questions about dog liability insurance
When do I need dog liability insurance?
In Lower Saxony it is compulsory for dogs from the age of six months. Many tariffs cover puppies even earlier – which makes sense, because a young dog can cause damage too.
Doesn’t my personal liability insurance pay too?
No. Personal liability insurance usually excludes damage caused by dogs – it only applies to tame small animals such as cats or rabbits. For your dog you need separate dog liability insurance.
What applies if someone else walks my dog?
In many tariffs, the so-called dog minder is covered too – for example friends or neighbours who occasionally take your dog out. Professional dog sitters are often excluded.
Do I have to upload my policy?
No, that's optional. With your policy, though, our partner's experts can compare your current cover more precisely and make you a suitable offer faster.
What does reviewing my contracts cost?
Nothing – 100 % free and with no hidden commitment. The check is non-binding. We are paid by the provider or the licensed experts when a new contract is concluded. When you switch electricity or gas, we pass part of this on to you as a bonus; for insurance there is no bonus and no cashback (§ 48b VAG). If you grant the voluntary support mandate, the licensed insurance experts also receive an ongoing commission from the insurers for looking after your contracts (portfolio commission) – this costs you nothing either.
