E-bike insurance

Why a dedicated e-bike insurance?

Home contents insurance usually only pays for bike theft if the bike is stolen from a locked room – on the road often only with an add-on and up to a maximum amount. Repairs after a fall, vandalism or a faulty battery are usually not covered there at all. E-bike insurance closes these gaps – especially for high-quality bikes.

Ideal for

  • Commuters & everyday riders
  • Touring & mountain bikers
  • Families with e-bikes

Personal call-back in German or Arabic

  • Theft – on the road too

Pays if your locked e-bike is stolen outside the office, at the station or on holiday – good tariffs without a night-time clause.

  • Battery & electronics

Depending on the tariff, damage to the battery, motor and display is covered – including from electronic faults or wear and tear.

  • Accidents & vandalism

Repairs are paid after a fall, an accident or vandalism. Many tariffs also help if you break down on the road.

Good to know

  • Pedelecs up to 25 km/h count as bicycles: no compulsory insurance and no plate.
  • S-pedelecs up to 45 km/h need liability insurance with an insurance plate – the plate is valid from March to the end of February each year.
  • Damage you cause to others with your pedelec is paid by your personal liability insurance.

Our partner's licensed experts will discuss with you personally exactly which cover suits you.

Questions about e-bike insurance

Isn’t my home contents insurance enough?

For theft from your locked flat or basement, often yes. If the bike is stolen on the road, home contents insurance usually only pays with a bicycle add-on and up to a maximum amount. Damage to the bike itself – after a fall, for example – is not covered there.

Do I need a plate for my S-pedelec?

Yes. S-pedelecs up to 45 km/h count as small motorcycles: you need liability insurance with an insurance plate, an AM driving licence (included in class B) and a helmet. You may ride from the age of 16 – cycle paths are usually off-limits.

What should I look out for when taking out cover?

Keep your purchase receipt handy: many tariffs are based on the purchase price and age of the bike. As a rule, the e-bike must be secured with a sturdy lock – the exact requirements are in the terms. The experts show you the differences.

Do I have to upload my policy?

No, that's optional. With your policy, though, our partner's experts can compare your current cover more precisely and make you a suitable offer faster.

What does reviewing my contracts cost?

Nothing – 100 % free and with no hidden commitment. The check is non-binding. We are paid by the provider or the licensed experts when a new contract is concluded. When you switch electricity or gas, we pass part of this on to you as a bonus; for insurance there is no bonus and no cashback (§ 48b VAG). If you grant the voluntary support mandate, the licensed insurance experts also receive an ongoing commission from the insurers for looking after your contracts (portfolio commission) – this costs you nothing either.
