What matters with motorbike insurance

Liability insurance is compulsory for motorbikes too: it pays for damage you cause to others – and also protects your pillion passenger. According to the insurers’ association, motorbikes are stolen around four times as often as cars. That’s why partial or comprehensive cover is worth it for many bikes.

Ideal for

  • Beginners & returning riders
  • Seasonal riders
  • Tourers & commuters

  • Liability

Pays for damage you cause to others with your motorbike and fends off unjustified claims. Your pillion passenger is protected too.

  • Partial cover (Teilkasko)

Pays for theft, fire, storm and hail. Permanently fitted parts and a helmet locked to the bike are usually covered too.

  • Comprehensive (Vollkasko)

Includes partial cover and also pays for accident damage to your bike that you caused yourself, as well as vandalism.

Good to know

  • With seasonal plates you only pay tax and insurance for the months in which you ride.
  • If your motorbike is parked safely over winter, the own-damage cover, e.g. against theft, usually remains in place.
  • No-claims classes exist for motorbikes too. Riding in races is usually not covered.

Our partner's licensed experts will discuss with you personally exactly which cover suits you.

Questions about motorbike insurance

Is my pillion passenger covered?

Yes. If your pillion passenger is injured in an accident, your motorbike’s liability insurance pays their claims – even if you caused the accident yourself. Your own injuries as the rider are not covered by it; that’s what accident insurance is for, for example.

Are my helmet and riding gear covered?

A helmet that is attached and locked to the motorbike is usually covered under partial cover. Whether your protective clothing is also replaced after an accident depends on the tariff – the experts show you the differences.

Are seasonal plates worth it?

If you only ride in certain months, often yes: you only pay vehicle tax and the insurance premium for the period shown on the plate. Outside the season, however, you may not ride or park the motorbike on public roads.

Do I have to upload my policy?

No, that's optional. With your policy, though, our partner's experts can compare your current cover more precisely and make you a suitable offer faster.

What does reviewing my contracts cost?

Nothing – 100 % free and with no hidden commitment. The check is non-binding. We are paid by the provider or the licensed experts when a new contract is concluded. When you switch electricity or gas, we pass part of this on to you as a bonus; for insurance there is no bonus and no cashback (§ 48b VAG). If you grant the voluntary support mandate, the licensed insurance experts also receive an ongoing commission from the insurers for looking after your contracts (portfolio commission) – this costs you nothing either.
